Univ. Prof. DI Dr. Ardeshir Mahdavi




Professor Mahdavi is the Chair of Building Physics and Building Ecology at TU Wien, Vienna Austria. He is also the Director of the Graduate Studies Program "Building Science and Technology" at TU Wien. Prior to his current position, professor Mahdavi was Full (tenured) Professor of Building Physics at CMU (Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA). Professor Mahdavi has also acted on multiple occasions as the Visiting Professor of Building Physics at different universities around the world. Professor Mahdavi has supervised over 60 doctoral students and 130 Master of Science students.

Professor Mahdavi has conducted internationally acclaimed research in the fields of Building Physics (energy performance, thermodynamics and heat transfer, lighting, acoustics), Building Performance Simulation, Building Controls and Diagnostics, Building Automation, Building Information Modelling, Building Ecology, and Human Ecology. His research record includes numerous projects conducted in US, Asia, and Europe.

Professor Mahdavi has authored and co-authored over 140 journal papers, 550 conference papers, and 70 scientific writings in book chapters and research documentations. He is a frequent Keynote speaker at international conferences. His current and past personal affiliations include Fellowship of IBPSA (International Building Performance Simulation Association), ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.), IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America), CIB (Conseil International Du Batiment Pour La Recherch L'Etude Et La Documentation), SHE (The North-American Society for Human Ecology), ÖNORM (Austrian Institute for Standardization), and ÖAL (Austrian Working Group for Noise Abatement).
